Escape from the metropolis

A chic chalet? Heated by an unusual monolith

It may be a rustic chalet but its charm was designed by architect Davide D’Agostino for a Parisian family escaping from the chaos of the big city. We are in Crans Montana, in the canton of Valais, a magical place where nature, ski runs and golf courses come together in one of the most exclusive resorts in Switzerland.

Chalet Aurery is not just a holiday home. It is a cosy and regenerating nest one can escape to in summer or winter. On the first floor, a swimming pool lit by spotlights faces directly onto the slope.

The living area, on the top floor, extends over 50 square meters. The entire arrangement of the furniture is centred around the three sided closed fireplace (Forma Wood T95 of MCZ).

We conceived the fireplace as a monolith with an imposing presence in a context that is already full of expressive content. For this reason we give it an almost totem-like appearance, choosing stone to cover the chimney block and the entire flue pipe up to the ceiling. - architect Davide D’Agostino

A series of niches open up randomly along the sides of the cladding, making the overall design lighter, more original and giving it character.
